In an effort to give back to the Denver Community, Erico Motorsports
has joined forces with Denver’s Road Home to present a FREE Movie on the
big screen in Cheesman Park. Starting at Sundown on Wednesday, June
24th, Erico Motorsports will present “The World’s Fastest Indian”
starring Anthony Hopkins. (rated PG; running time 127 minutes). Team
Erico invites you to bring a picnic basket and watch the inspiring story of
Burt Munro.
For 25 years, Burt Munro (1899-1978), from Invercargill at the south end
of New Zealand, has been working on his motorcycle, a 1920 Indian, to
increase its speed. He dreams of taking it to the salt flats of Bonneville,
Utah to see how fast it will go. By the early 1960s, heart disease threatens
his life, so he mortgages his house and takes a boat to Los Angeles, buys
an old car, builds a makeshift trailer, gets the Indian through customs, and
heads for Utah. Along the way, people he meets are charmed by his open,
direct friendliness. If he makes it to Bonneville, will they let an old guy on
the flats with makeshift tires, no brakes, and no chute? And will the Indian
actually respond
Erico Motorsports and Denver’s Road Home will also be on-hand
collecting donations for Mayor Hickenlooper’s Ten Year Plan to End
Homelessness. Denver’s Road Home began in October 2003 in response to
an increasing rise in homeless persons in the City & County of Denver and
a mounting increase in public safety concerns.
As an added bonus, Erico will unveil the new Triumph Thunderbird as well
as showcase Jerry Pokorny and Jack Bergman, who have both braved the
conditions of the Utah Salt Flat speed races and lived to tell the tale.
